Present Haryana Government undertakes ‘Unique Initiatives’ for upliftment of Backward Classes

Previous regimes used Backward Classes merely as Vote Bank

New Delhi, January, 30,2025 – In Haryana, the present BJP government is dedicated to the grassroots development and empowerment of communities that were once only treated as vote banks by previous governments. With a focus on the holistic development of these communities, the State government established the Haryana Backward Classes Commission. Based on the Commission’s recommendations, the government has introduced 5 percent reservation for Backward Class-B and 8 percent reservation for Backward Class-A in Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipalities.

Currently, two of the five BJP Lok Sabha MPs from Haryana belong to the backward class and hold ministerial positions in Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi’s cabinet. In addition, one MP from the backward class represents Haryana in the Rajya Sabha.

Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership have entrusted Sh Nayab Singh Saini, a member of the backward class, with the responsibility of Chief Minister of Haryana for the second time. Sh Nayab Singh Saini, a dedicated party worker, has become a prominent leader for his community both in the state and nationwide. Known for his simplicity, humility, and approachable nature, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has earned admiration even from opposition members, who frequently praise him at social events. His popularity extends beyond Haryana, with people from states governed by parties other than the BJP also honouring him.

The double-engine government is leaving no stone unturned for the welfare of the backward class. This community, associated with Lord Vishwakarma, the creator of the universe, has preserved its crafts and skills across generations—ranging from pottery, jewelry-making, and stitching to idol crafting and home construction. To promote their economic growth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘PM Vishwakarma Yojana,’ which provides affordable loans to members of backward classes to help further their businesses.

Under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership, the Haryana government has raised the income limit for the creamy layer of backward classes from Rs06 lakh to Rs 08 lakh annually. This move will aid in the educational, social, and economic upliftment of backward classes and encourage OBC youth to pursue government jobs. Following the central government’s approach, this annual income cap excludes salary and agricultural income, benefiting thousands in the OBC category. Apart from this, OBC certificates can now be obtained online from home. The state government is also prioritizing the filling of backlog vacancies for backward classes in Group A and B through a special recruitment drive, offering OBC youth better employment opportunities.

The Haryana government is offering scholarships ranging from Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000 for OBC students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their education. The current Haryana Government has implemented numerous welfare measures for the educational, social, and economic advancement of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and other marginalized groups, that previous governments had never even considered. While those governments saw these communities as mere vote banks, the BJP has worked to ensure their full dignity and respect at every level.
