IADVL has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging justice for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College

Mumbai : The Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL) has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urgently seeking justice in the case of the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s R.G. Kar Medical College. The association expressed deep concern over the incident, calling for swift and decisive action to bring those responsible to justice.

In response to the tragic event, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors for 24 hours, from 6 am on August 17th to 6 am on August 18th. Despite the strike, the IMA has assured that all essential medical services will continue to be maintained during this period.

The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) has also called for a 12-hour strike to protest the attacks on doctors and to demand justice for the deceased doctor. The strike reflects widespread anger and frustration within the medical community and among the public over the safety of healthcare professionals.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organized protests across West Bengal, including road blockades scheduled from 2 pm to 4 pm today. These protests aim to highlight the party’s demand for justice and to draw attention to the broader issue of violence against women and healthcare workers.

On the investigative front, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is intensifying its probe into the case. Today, the CBI is interrogating the Medical Superintendent of the hospital at the CGO Complex in Kolkata, seeking more information about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Yesterday, the agency made significant progress by arresting nine individuals connected to the rape and murder case and has issued notifications to 26 others as part of its ongoing investigation.
