New Delhi, January 20, 2024-Former Member of Parliament (MP) from Haryana, Ashok Tanwar, who recently resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) citing disagreements with the party’s alignment with Congress, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. The joining ceremony took place at the BJP’s national headquarters in Delhi and was attended by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP chief Nayab Singh Saini.
In a statement to the media, Tanwar commended the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing his admiration for the transformative changes in the country under Modi’s tenure. Tanwar stated, “The country has been transformed in the last ten years under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. We are influenced by the work being done by PM Modi to make India number one. I will work towards nation-building as much as possible.”
Tanwar also emphasized his commitment to working as a cohesive team with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP President Nayab Singh Saini, aiming to secure 400 Lok Sabha seats for the BJP in the 2024 elections.
Welcoming Tanwar into the BJP, Chief Minister Khattar highlighted the significance of the day for the expansion of the BJP in Haryana. He mentioned their familial connection, stating, “He is my nephew as his mother and I belong to the same village.” Khattar expressed regret over Congress workers targeting Tanwar during his tenure in the Congress and mentioned Tanwar’s desire to join the BJP after becoming disillusioned with the Congress.
Reflecting on Tanwar’s previous stint with the AAP, Khattar characterized it as a mistake and commended Tanwar for rectifying it by joining the BJP. Tanwar had left the Congress in the past but chose to join the AAP in April 2022. His recent departure from the AAP was prompted by dissatisfaction with the party’s alignment with the Congress.
The development marks a notable political shift for Ashok Tanwar and is seen as a significant addition to the BJP’s political landscape in Haryana.
