Second BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat is set to begin in New Delhi

The 2nd Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Foreign Ministers’ Retreat is beginning today in New Delhi. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host his BIMSTEC counterparts at this event, as informed by the External Affairs Ministry.

This two-day retreat will provide an opportunity for member countries to broaden and deepen their cooperation across various sectors, including security, connectivity, trade, and investment in the Bay of Bengal region and its littoral areas.

The first edition of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ Retreat was held in Bangkok, Thailand, in July of last year. BIMSTEC is a regional grouping comprising seven South and Southeast Asian countries: India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan. The organization focuses on multifaceted cooperation to promote regional integration and address common challenges.
