The Ministry of Communications has responded to misleading claims regarding recent mobile services tariff increases in the country. The Ministry stated that with three private sector companies and one public sector company, the current mobile services market operates through the market forces of demand and supply. The government is focused on protecting the interests of subscribers, enabling orderly growth with investment in the latest technologies, and ensuring financial viability.
The Communications Ministry also noted that the government’s policies and the regulatory framework notified by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) have resulted in one of the lowest costs for subscribers of mobile services in India. TRAI, as an independent regulator for telecommunication services, regulates the rates of telecommunication services in the country.
