New Delhi, July 5 2024 : The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in response to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea concerning the excise policy case. Kejriwal, who was arrested on June 26, 2024, and is currently in judicial custody, faces allegations related to irregularities in the 2022 excise policy, which has since been revoked.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi argued on behalf of Kejriwal, emphasizing that the Chief Minister poses no flight risk or security threat. Singhvi highlighted that Kejriwal had been granted bail in an earlier Enforcement Directorate (ED) case before being taken into CBI custody.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna presided over the proceedings and scheduled the next hearing for July 17. The court directed the CBI to file its response to Kejriwal’s bail plea by that date. Meanwhile, CBI’s counsel DP Singh objected to Kejriwal’s approach to the High Court directly without first seeking bail from the trial court.
The matter also includes Kejriwal’s challenge to his arrest by the probe agency, which will be considered alongside the bail plea in the upcoming hearing.
