Terror Alert in Delhi: Security Heightened Around Red Fort and Religious Sites

New Delhi, February 21, 2026: Security has been tightened across key locations in the national capital following intelligence inputs warning of a possible terror plot targeting prominent sites in Delhi. According to senior officials, central agencies flagged a potential threat linked to the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Authorities have increased vigilance around the Red Fort and several religious places in the Chandni Chowk area, which were reportedly mentioned in preliminary inputs.

Police and intelligence agencies have moved into alert mode, intensifying surveillance in Old Delhi and other high-footfall zones. Barricading, vehicle screening, and identity checks have been stepped up, particularly around heritage monuments and crowded marketplaces.

An official familiar with the developments said that the threat assessment is still under verification, but precautionary measures have been implemented to prevent any untoward incident.

Sources indicated that the suspected plan may involve the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). While there is no confirmation of an imminent attack, bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been strategically deployed in vulnerable areas.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitoring has also been intensified, with control rooms instructed to maintain round-the-clock watch.

Security arrangements have been reinforced near temples and other places of worship in the Chandni Chowk locality. Officials said crowded public areas remain under close observation as agencies cross-check intelligence leads.

Law enforcement authorities emphasized that these are preventive steps and urged the public not to panic but to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.

The latest alert comes months after a blast near the Red Fort Metro vicinity in November 2025, which had resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Investigations at the time had indicated a terror link, prompting long-term strengthening of security infrastructure in the area.

Delhi Police, along with central intelligence units, is conducting coordinated monitoring operations. Senior officers are reviewing deployment patterns, and additional personnel have been stationed at critical entry and exit points in the city.

Authorities reiterated that threat inputs are routinely evaluated and security protocols updated accordingly to safeguard residents and visitors in the capital.
