New Delhi: Security agencies were placed on high alert after the Delhi Legislative Assembly received two alarming emails warning of a possible explosive attack inside the premises.
Officials confirmed that the threatening messages were sent to the Assembly Secretariat’s official email account as well as to the inbox of Speaker Vijender Gupta. Both emails carried identical content and issued a time-bound warning about detonating multiple explosive devices within the complex.
The message claimed that several bombs filled with hazardous substances had been planted and could be triggered within hours. It also included controversial and inflammatory remarks targeting specific communities and made references to political developments in southern India.
Authorities noted that the emails linked the threat to political narratives surrounding Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and mentioned upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. The communication further referred to political figures and ideological slogans, suggesting a possible attempt to create unrest ahead of the polls.
Security teams immediately carried out checks across the Assembly complex, while cyber experts began tracing the origin of the emails. No suspicious objects were found during initial searches, but surveillance and monitoring have been significantly intensified.
The development comes shortly after a recent breach at the Assembly premises, where an individual managed to enter the complex by breaking through a gate designated for VIP access. The person, later identified as a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was detained by police.
According to family members, the individual had been under stress and was attempting to seek assistance from officials regarding a personal matter. They claimed his actions were not criminally motivated but rather driven by emotional distress.
Investigators are now examining whether the latest threat has any connection to the earlier incident or if it is an isolated attempt to trigger panic. Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and have not ruled out further action depending on the findings of the probe.
