Patna, June 28: Under dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has been consistently offering government jobs and employment opportunities to its youth, setting new benchmarks across the country. Since 2020, more than 9,60,000 young individuals have been appointed to government positions in state. Notably, CM has personally handed over appointment letters to selected candidates across various departments on more than ten occasions. Continuing this effort, on Saturday, 21,391 young men and women were appointed to positions in police force. Additionally, recruitment process is currently underway for nearly 2,00,000 vacancies in different departments.

Beyond government jobs, employment opportunities have been created for over 2.4 million people across various sectors. A significant share of this employment has emerged from the industrial sector, with multiple industrial zones being developed across Bihar. These zones have attracted both small and large companies, generating substantial job opportunities—especially in areas like Bela Industrial Area in Muzaffarpur, Gidha in Bhojpur, and Bihta Industrial Zone.

Moreover, under Mukhyamantri Udyami Yojana, over 40,000 entrepreneurs have successfully launched their businesses, creating additional employment in process. Many women associated with self-help groups have also taken up self-employment initiatives and are providing jobs to others in their communities.

By generating such a vast number of employment opportunities, Nitish Kumar-led government has set a national example. State is now working toward the ambitious target of providing 5 million jobs and employment opportunities within five years.

Fulfilment of Promise Made Under Saat Nischay-2

In 2020, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had promised to provide 1 million government jobs and 1 million employment opportunities under “Saat Nischay-2” initiative. This target has since been revised to 1.2 million jobs and 3.8 million employment opportunities. Government is operating in mission mode to achieve this goal. So far, over 9,60,000 government appointments have been completed, with the remaining in progress. On employment front, arrangements have already been made for 2.4 million people, and the figure is expected to reach 3.8 million before upcoming elections.

Historic milestone in teacher recruitment

Bihar has created history by conducting large-scale teacher recruitment drives. In 2023, state decided that teacher appointments would be made through Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). In first phase, 1,20,336 teachers were recruited. On November 2, 2023, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar distributed appointment letters to these candidates at a mega event held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. In the second phase, held on January 13, 2024, 96,823 more teachers received their appointment letters. Third phase, on March 9, 2025, saw distribution of appointment letters to 51,389 teachers. As of now, a total of 2,66,558 teachers have been recruited in three phases by BPSC.

Additionally, 42,918 candidates selected for the post of principal have also received their appointment letters. This brings the total number of new appointments through BPSC to 3,09,476 teachers and principals.

Massive recruitment in Bihar police

Bihar Police force is also undergoing large-scale recruitment. On June 28, 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar handed over appointment letters to 21,392 constables during an event held at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna. Earlier, on October 21, 2024, 1,239 Sub-Inspectors, including state’s first transgender officers, were appointed—marking a historic moment in Bihar Police recruitment.

Recruitment across various government departments

Apart from education and police, major recruitment drives are underway in departments like health, engineering, and technical education. On February 4, 2025, Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to 6,837 candidates, including 6,341 Junior Engineers and 496 Instructors. On March 29, 2025, 715 Assistant Urdu Translators received their appointment letters. In the health department, the recruitment process for 35,383 new positions is nearing completion.
