New Delhi, April 8: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah paid homage to the legendary nationalist writer Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay on his death anniversary, remembering his enduring contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Shah recalled how Bankim Chandra’s literary works, particularly Anandamath, inspired Indians to reclaim their self-respect and resist colonial oppression. He highlighted that the iconic song “Vande Mataram” united people across languages and regions, becoming a rallying cry for the nation’s fight for independence.
“His Anandamath mirrored the grand vision of Bharat Mata, inspiring the youth to dedicate themselves to the freedom and protection of the Motherland,” the Home Minister wrote on ‘X’, underlining the timeless relevance of the writer’s work.
Shah emphasized that Bankim Chandra’s influence went beyond literature, shaping India’s cultural and patriotic consciousness. He noted that the nation remains eternally indebted to him for instilling courage, self-respect, and devotion to the country among generations of Indians.
Commemorating icons like Bankim Chandra, Shah added, helps inspire today’s youth to uphold national values and continue the legacy of sacrifice, unity, and dedication.
