In Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, a wanted criminal named Sumit Kumar alias Monu Chhavani, who had a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was killed in an encounter with the police and the Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police Dr. Ajaypal Sharma reported that Sumit Kumar, who was involved in an extortion attempt in Singramau on March 5 and had 24 criminal cases against him, was intercepted by the police near Pili river in Shahpur village. During the encounter, Sumit opened fire on the police, who retaliated, resulting in Sumit’s fatal injuries. He succumbed to his injuries at the district hospital. Two of Sumit’s aides escaped, and the police recovered an AK-47 rifle, a 9mm pistol, and an SUV from the scene.
