New Delhi, 15 September 2025– The Rekha Government in Delhi has taken a historic step for the city’s youth. Chief Minister  Rekha Gupta launched the ‘Viksit Delhi Chief Minister Internship Programme’.
For the first time in Delhi’s governance history, the government has provided young people with a direct platform to engage in administration and policymaking. According to the Chief Minister, this initiative will allow youth to play a meaningful role in shaping the capital’s future.

During a special event at the Delhi Secretariat, internship offer letters were distributed to talented students from colleges across the city. These interns will work for three months on various projects alongside different departments and senior officials of the Delhi Government. The internship is designed to familiarise youth with the challenges of governance and provide a platform to develop solution-oriented thinking. On this occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said it was a matter of immense pride that, for the first time in Delhi’s history, such an internship is being organised, enabling non-political talent to become part of the system. The fresh ideas, innovative technology, and new vision brought by our youth will serve as inspiration and a catalyst for change in governance. The Chief Minister emphasised that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and their thinking can inject new energy into the government system.

Rekha Gupta added that this internship is not merely a programme, but a co-creation of Delhi’s future. The partnership will allow the government not only to teach but also to learn from young people. She stressed that the initiative will advance Delhi towards paperless governance, data-driven administration, smart policymaking, and digital innovation. Linking the programme with the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, the Chief Minister said this internship will make youth active participants in nation-building. She added that the programme lays the foundation for a ‘Viksit Delhi’, and that today’s experiences will shape tomorrow’s leadership. These interns will become a defining force of Delhi’s future and a key driver of India’s development.

Sharing her personal experiences, the Chief Minister recalled that during her college years she had introduced the Common Admission Form at Delhi University, streamlining admissions for thousands of students. She highlighted that meaningful change occurs when we move beyond merely raising complaints and instead offer solutions by actively engaging with the system.

Out of nearly 9,000 applicants, 84 exceptional candidates were selected through a rigorous and transparent process. It involves online tests, essay writing, document verification, and participation in boot camps with workshops and interactive sessions. Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 for three months. The Chief Minister noted that this is not merely a stipend, but a symbol of youth empowerment, self-reliance, and inspiration.
