‘New Delhi, July 14, 2025 — Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, has urged stakeholders to focus on building a ‘Viksit Gaon’—a developed village—as the foundation for realizing Viksit Bharat by 2047. Speaking at the Ministry of Rural Development’s first Performance Review Committee meeting in New Delhi, the Minister emphasized that rural transformation is essential for India’s future.
“A Viksit Gaon — where every family has a pucca house, basic amenities, quality road connectivity, employment for youth, and empowered women — is not a distant dream, but an achievable reality,” Dr. Chandrasekhar said.
MGNREGS has become a powerful tool against rural unemployment and distress migration, generating 250 crore person-days annually, with over 15 crore active workers. He recommended a shift toward asset creation and convergence with other development schemes.
Under PMAY-G, over 3.22 crore pucca houses have been built, with a target of 2 crore more by 2029. He encouraged use of eco-friendly, cost-effective technologies.
PMGSY has delivered over 7.56 lakh km of rural roads, and the Minister proposed state-level road maintenance funds, community monitoring, and innovative financing.
DAY-NRLM has organized over 10.05 crore women into 91 lakh SHGs, with bank linkages exceeding ₹11 lakh crore. The Lakhpati Didi Initiative has already empowered 1.5 crore women to earn more than ₹1 lakh annually, with a target of 3 crore.
DDU-GKY has trained over 17 lakh rural youth, placing more than 11 lakh in jobs.
Chandrasekhar concluded that the Ministry, under the leadership of PM Modi and Cabinet Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is not just implementing schemes, but shaping India’s rural growth story.
