Uttar Pradesh– The government’s recent GST rate reductions in Uttar Pradesh are set to boost both traditional artisan clusters and modern industrial sectors. Iconic craft hubs such as Bhadohi carpets, Moradabad brassware, Saharanpur woodcraft, Gorakhpur terracotta, Khurja ceramics, Lucknow Chikankari, and Varanasi Zardozi will see prices drop by 6–7%, improving affordability for consumers and enhancing competitiveness for exporters. The leather and footwear clusters of Kanpur and Agra, employing over 1.5 million workers, will also benefit, strengthening MSMEs and export margins.
Traditional toys, wooden crafts, handmade paper, and stationery clusters are expected to experience higher domestic demand, while Firozabad glassware and Agra Petha gain through festival sales and tourism.
Sports goods and cement industries, crucial for infrastructure and household consumption, become more accessible due to lower taxes, supporting industrial growth. Overall, the reforms aim to sustain millions of livelihoods, promote ODOP and GI-recognised products, and align with the long-term vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, blending India’s artisanal heritage with modern industrial development.
