New Delhi | May 25, 2025- The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducted the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025 today as per schedule, drawing lakhs of aspirants to exam centres across the country. The two-paper format tested candidates on a wide range of subjects and skills crucial for the nation’s top administrative roles.
The examination comprised General Studies (GS) Paper 1 and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), also known as Paper 2. Both were objective-type tests carrying 200 marks each.
GS Paper 1 covered a broad syllabus that included:
Indian History & Polity
Geography
Economic and Social Development
Environmental Ecology
Science & Technology and current affairs
CSAT focused on assessing candidates’ comprehension, logical reasoning, decision-making, and numerical ability. Although qualifying in nature, the CSAT paper is crucial — candidates must score a minimum of 33% to be eligible for further evaluation.
The exam was held in two sessions:
Morning Session (9:30 AM – 11:30 AM)
Afternoon Session (2:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
Gates at the exam centres were closed 30 minutes prior to the start of each session, and candidates were required to arrive at least an hour before reporting time. Entry was strictly monitored, with mandatory requirements including a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID, or driving licence) and a hard copy of the e-Admit Card.
Candidates were also reminded to preserve their admit cards for future reference, including the final result stage.
With the prelims now complete, the focus shifts to the release of the official answer key and cutoff scores, which will determine eligibility for the Mains Examination — the second stage of the prestigious Civil Services selection process.
Tension runs high among candidates, many of whom have spent years preparing for what is considered one of the toughest competitive exams in India. The results of the prelims will filter out aspirants for the Mains, expected to be held later this year.
Stay tuned for further updates on answer key releases, analysis, and expert reviews.
