New Delhi, January 24, 2026: On the eve of the 77th Republic Day, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, held an interaction with beneficiaries of key Government of India schemes — PM-KUSUM, PM-JANMAN, and DA-JGUA — who were specially invited to witness this year’s Republic Day celebrations.
The interaction highlighted the Government’s continued focus on inclusive development and last-mile delivery, aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Beneficiaries from tribal and rural communities shared how improved access to electricity and clean energy has positively impacted their lives, enhancing education, healthcare, livelihoods, safety, and overall quality of living.
The Minister emphasized the success of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), launched in November 2023 on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. The scheme aims to electrify households belonging to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Out of approximately 1.43 lakh identified households, nearly 1.36 lakh homes (around 95%) have already been electrified through joint efforts of the Ministry of Power, State Governments, and DISCOMs.
He also reviewed the progress of the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyaan (DA-JGUA), introduced in October 2024 to accelerate development in Scheduled Tribe habitations. Under this initiative, the Centre has sanctioned ₹4,203 crore to electrify over 2.83 lakh households and more than 4,200 public facilities. So far, around 56,000 households have received electricity connections. The government has provided special relaxations in cost norms to ensure coverage of remote and previously unconnected areas.
Naik also spoke about the achievements of PM-KUSUM, the world’s largest agricultural solarisation programme. The scheme has led to the installation of 10.4 GW of solar capacity and deployment of over 21.7 lakh solar pumps, benefiting more than 21 lakh farmers. This has significantly reduced dependence on diesel and lowered carbon emissions, while cutting input costs for farmers.
Additionally, the Minister briefly mentioned the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, which supports households in installing rooftop solar systems, helping families lower electricity bills and move towards energy self-reliance.
A total of 249 beneficiaries from 15 states have been invited to Delhi as special guests for the Republic Day celebrations. The three-day programme began with this interaction, offering participants an opportunity to share feedback directly with the Minister.
Concluding the session, Naik reiterated that beneficiary feedback plays a crucial role in improving implementation and ensuring that development reaches even the most remote and underserved regions of the country.
