India Skaters Strike Gold at 2025 Inline Speed Skating Worlds, Earn Record Five Medals

New Delhi, Sept 24, 2025 — India’s speed skating team returned from the 73rd Inline Speed Skating World Championships in Beidaihe, China, with its best performance to date, claiming five medals—three gold and two bronze—and a fifth-place finish among 40+ participating nations.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the 20-member squad on Tuesday, praising their “remarkable performance that proves India’s youth are excelling in both traditional and emerging sports.”

Historic Firsts for Indian Skating

  • Senior Breakthrough: Anandkumar Velkumar (22) became the first Indian ever to medal at the senior level, seizing two golds (1000 m Sprint, 42.195 km Marathon) and a bronze (500 m Sprint).
  • Junior Milestone: Krish Sharma (18) captured India’s first junior gold with a win in the 1000 m Sprint.
  • Anish Raj (17) added a junior bronze in the One-Lap Sprint.

The championships, held from September 13–21, featured 42 events across senior and junior categories with competitors from more than 40 countries.

Dr. Mandaviya lauded the athletes, coaches, and the Roller Skating Federation of India, calling the results “a proud moment for Bharat and an inspiration for the next generation of skaters.”
