Wardha, May 12 (JIMAKA):Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar gave a unique direction to India’s freedom struggle. Not only did he contribute as a freedom fighter, but also inspired and shaped many revolutionaries. He is the only hero in India’s freedom history who was sentenced to two life imprisonments in the Andaman Islands. The memorial erected in his honor at Wardha will serve as an inspiration for future generations, stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during his visit to the memorial.
CM Fadnavis visited the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Memorial Garden located at Bachelor Road in Wardha, paid floral tribute to Savarkar’s statue, and offered his respects. He was accompanied by Tribal Development Minister Prof. Dr. Ashok Uikey, Guardian Minister Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, MLA Sumit Wankhede, Superintendent of Police Anurag Jain, and Swatantryaveer Savarkar Social Service Association President Shyam Deshpande, among others.
Fadnavis emphasized the importance of instilling Savarkar’s scientific mindset in the youth. He highlighted Savarkar’s relentless fight against the caste system in India, his writings advocating for caste abolition, and his efforts to build the Patit Pavan Temple—a symbol of equality and justice for marginalized communities. Savarkar’s work to eliminate caste discrimination is one of his most significant contributions. His resilience during imprisonment is reflected in his autobiography Majhi Janmathep (“My Life Sentence”).
Fadnavis also praised Savarkar’s role in enriching the Marathi language with purified vocabulary and helping it gain classical language status.
At the beginning of the event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was felicitated by the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Memorial Committee. He also visited a sculpture exhibition based on the life and work of Swatantryaveer Savarkar.
On this occasion, he released a commemorative souvenir, which includes articles by renowned writers from the state and photographs of various programs conducted by the social organization.
