Suresh Gopi to Present Government Response on Spiritual Tourism Report in Parliament Budget Session

Union Tourism Minister to outline steps taken following Parliamentary panel recommendations on niche tourism

New Delhi, March 16: Union Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Gopi is scheduled to present a statement in Parliament during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament regarding the government’s response to the recommendations made in the 357th report of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture.

The minister will inform the House about the actions taken by the government following the committee’s suggestions aimed at promoting niche and spiritual tourism across the country.

The parliamentary report had highlighted the growing potential of spiritual and faith-based tourism in India and recommended measures to strengthen infrastructure, improve visitor facilities and promote lesser-known pilgrimage destinations.

Through the statement, the tourism ministry is expected to outline the steps being implemented to develop specialised tourism segments, including heritage, pilgrimage and spiritual circuits, which are considered important for boosting domestic travel and regional economies.

Spiritual tourism has seen steady growth in recent years with major religious destinations witnessing rising numbers of visitors. The government has been focusing on developing pilgrimage routes and improving connectivity to key sites as part of its broader tourism development strategy.

Officials say the initiatives could help enhance India’s position as a major global destination for faith-based tourism while also supporting employment and local livelihoods in pilgrimage centres.
