Delhi- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Sunday evening to pay their last respects to veteran tribal leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister, Shibu Soren. The senior Congress leaders met with grieving family members, including his son and current Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, and extended their heartfelt condolences.
Shibu Soren, affectionately known as ‘Dishom Guru’ and widely regarded as one of the tallest tribal leaders in Indian politics, passed away at the age of 80. His demise marks the end of an era in Jharkhand’s political landscape, where he played a pivotal role in the movement for tribal rights and the creation of the separate state of Jharkhand in 2000.

Mallikarjun Kharge, while speaking to the media outside the hospital, expressed profound sorrow and acknowledged Soren’s indelible contributions to Indian politics. “Shibu Soren ji was not only a leader of the tribal community but also a true warrior for the rights of the marginalized. His entire life was dedicated to social justice and empowerment of the underprivileged. His passing is a monumental loss to the nation,” Kharge stated.

Rahul Gandhi, who has long admired Soren’s commitment to grassroots politics, described him as a symbol of resistance and resilience. “Shibu Soren ji’s life is a reflection of unwavering struggle and deep compassion for his people. He fought relentlessly for the rights of tribal communities and ensured that their voices reached the highest corridors of power. My deepest condolences to Hemant Soren ji and the entire family during this painful time,” he said.

Both leaders stood in solemn silence beside the mortal remains of Shibu Soren, offering floral tributes and joining the family in mourning. Several Congress workers and supporters had gathered outside the hospital premises, many with placards reading “Salute to Dishom Guru” and “Jharkhand’s Father Figure.”
Political leaders from across party lines have continued to pour in messages of condolence, highlighting the legacy of the JMM patriarch. A state funeral is expected to be held in Ranchi, where thousands of supporters are anticipated to gather for his final rites.
The passing of Shibu Soren leaves a void not just in Jharkhand politics but also in the broader struggle for tribal identity and rights in India. His life and work will continue to inspire generations to come.

From political leaders to civil society members and common citizens, tributes have been pouring in from all corners. Social media platforms are flooded with messages, photos, and memories under hashtags like #DishomGuru and #ShibuSoren. His life’s work — championing tribal welfare, land rights, and local governance — is being remembered as a template for grassroots leadership.
In an emotional statement, Hemant Soren said,
“Baba was not just my father. He was the guardian of this land, the voice of the voiceless. He taught us how to fight for our rights, and his blessings and ideals will continue to guide us.”
Heartfelt tributes to Dishom Guru Shibu Soren.
Deep condolences to Hemant Soren, Kalpana Soren, and the entire family during this hour of profound grief.
India has lost a titan of tribal rights and a fearless warrior of justice, but his spirit and mission will live on forever in the hearts of millions.
