New Delhi, January 30: Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, connected with students at IIT Delhi during an interactive youth outreach programme titled “Bharat Sampark – Engaging India’s Young Minds.” The visit focused on encouraging student participation in India’s evolving public service and technology landscape.

During the session, students raised questions on subjects ranging from emerging technologies and innovation to logistics, research partnerships, and career pathways in government-linked sectors. The Minister urged young minds to play a proactive role in shaping the nation’s future through innovation and public service reforms.

Addressing queries about employment and collaboration opportunities, Scindia spoke about the rapid modernization of India Post. He explained that the department is adopting advanced digital systems and upgrading infrastructure to expand its role beyond traditional mail services. Today, India Post is strengthening its footprint in logistics, financial services, e-commerce support, and digital citizen services, especially in smaller cities and rural regions.

He also invited students to explore internships, live projects, and innovation partnerships with the postal department, calling it a platform where technology and public service intersect.

As part of the visit, the Minister toured the Next Generation (N-Gen) Campus Post Office at IIT Delhi — the first facility in the country redesigned under this initiative. The revamped centre is built with a youth-focused approach and features student-created interiors, digital payment systems, QR-based booking, free Wi-Fi, parcel packaging support, and concessional Speed Post services for students.

A hands-on learning model has also been introduced, allowing students to gain real-world exposure to postal operations and service management.

Scindia further visited the Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management at IIT Delhi, where students demonstrated advanced work in tactile internet and haptic robotics. The technology enables users to experience the sense of touch remotely using ultra-fast, low-latency networks. It allows detection of physical properties like texture, temperature, and resistance from distant objects — a breakthrough with potential applications in skill training, remote operations, and next-generation digital experiences.

The Minister praised the research, calling it a major step toward building India’s deep-tech ecosystem and advancing the vision of an “Internet of Skills.”

The campus modernization programme is part of a broader government push aligned with Digital India and Amrit Kaal reforms. Under the N-Gen initiative, the goal is to transform 100 campus post offices by March 31, 2026. More than 40 institutions, including IITs, IIMs, NITs, central universities, and state universities, already have upgraded facilities.

The outreach at IIT Delhi reflects India Post’s renewed strategy to engage youth through innovation, digital services, and participatory governance, positioning the institution as a modern and future-ready public service network
