Negligence or Misfortune? Jhalawar School Roof Crashes on Students

Tragedy in Jhalawar: School Roof Collapse Kills 4 Children, Rescue Operations Underway

Jhalawar, Rajasthan –  A tragic incident shook Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district on Friday morning after the roof of Piplodi Primary School collapsed, killing at least four students and injuring several others. Rescue efforts are ongoing as more children are feared trapped under the debris.

The incident took place during school hours, sending shockwaves across the region. According to Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Budania, both the Jhalawar Collector and senior district officials rushed to the scene upon receiving news of the collapse.

“Three to four children have died. Several others are critically injured. Rescue is our top priority right now,” SP Budania told reporters.

Chaotic visuals from the site, shared by news agency , show a crowd of villagers and parents attempting to remove bricks with their bare hands. A bulldozer was deployed to speed up the rescue operation. Heart-wrenching scenes emerged as families searched desperately for their children in the rubble.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his grief and urgency.

“Instructions have been given to the concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured children,” he said.

According to the reports, 17 injured students have been admitted to a nearby government hospital. Medical staff were seen providing emergency care while anxious parents waited for updates on their children’s condition.

Eyewitness Account: “We heard a loud crash, then screams”

An eyewitness and local resident, Ramesh Meena, who lives near the school, described the terrifying moment:

“We heard a loud crash. People ran towards the school. There were screams from inside. Children were stuck. We started pulling bricks out with our hands.”

This incident has triggered serious questions about the structural integrity of school buildings in rural India. Locals allege that the school building was poorly maintained and had visible cracks, but no action was taken despite repeated complaints.

The State Education Department has not yet issued an official statement, but sources say an inquiry committee is likely to be set up to investigate the cause of the collapse.
