New Delhi : The Special Police Unit for Women & Children (SPUWAC), Delhi Police, conducted a powerful Self-Defence & Women Safety Awareness Programme under its flagship “SASHAKTI” initiative at the India International Trade Fair (IITF), Pragati Maidan, today. The event drew widespread attention, highlighting Delhi Police’s ongoing commitment to empowering women and strengthening safety awareness across the national capital.

During the programme, trained instructors from SPUWAC demonstrated practical and easy-to-learn self-defence techniques designed specifically for women and girls. These techniques, inspired by real-life situations, aim to build confidence, presence of mind, and quick response abilities among participants when faced with threatening circumstances. The crowd appreciated the clarity and effectiveness of the demonstrations, which were tailored to equip women with essential survival skills.

A compelling Nukkad Natak was also performed, focusing on critical issues such as self-defence, domestic violence, women’s rights, cyber safety, and the importance of helpline numbers. Through strong dialogues and a vibrant street-play format, performers successfully connected with visitors, especially young girls, women, and families attending the trade fair.

The event was graced by DCP SPUWAC Ms. Anjitha Chepyala, IPS, who applauded the performers and shared insights on Delhi Police’s sustained efforts toward women’s safety and empowerment.
In her address, DCP Anjitha Chepyala said:
“Delhi Police is committed to ensuring that every woman and girl feels safe, confident, and empowered in every space she occupies. ‘SASHAKTI’ is not just a programme—it is a movement towards building resilience, self-belief, and readiness among women. Through these self-defence demonstrations and awareness initiatives, we aim to equip our daughters, sisters, and mothers with the skills and knowledge to protect themselves and others. I encourage all women to actively participate in such programmes and become ambassadors of safety in their communities. Together, we can build a safer and stronger society.”

The demonstration received an overwhelming response from the public, with many appreciating the SPUWAC Self-Defence & Awareness Team for their message-driven performance and dedication. SPUWAC reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement and announced that similar awareness programmes will continue across Delhi to promote women’s safety, empowerment, and youth awareness.
