New Delhi, 30 September 2025 – The Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) flagship digital safety platform, Sanchar Saathi, has achieved a major milestone by helping recover over 6 lakh lost and stolen mobile handsets. Launched in May 2023, the initiative leverages advanced AI technology and real-time coordination with telecom operators and State/UT police to protect citizens’ digital assets.

The ‘Block Your Lost/Stolen Mobile Handset’ facility allows users to report, block, trace, or unblock devices across all Indian networks. Each reported handset is blocked nationwide to prevent misuse, and automated alerts are sent to both citizens and the police when the device is used. This integration has enabled recoveries at a rate of nearly one phone per minute, with monthly recoveries rising 61% from January to August 2025.

Sanchar Saathi also offers tools such as:

  • Chakshu: Reporting suspicious communications

  • Know Your Mobile Connections: Verifying active connections

  • Device Authenticity Verification: IMEI validation via portal, app, or SMS

  • International Call Reporting: Reporting suspicious calls

  • Trusted Contact Details: Verified bank and financial institution contacts

Accessible in Hindi, English, and 21 regional languages, Sanchar Saathi reinforces citizens’ trust in digital governance and strengthens India’s vision of a cyber-secure Digital Bharat.

Citizens are urged to:

  • Report lost or stolen devices immediately through the portal or mobile app

  • Use the platform’s tools for ongoing digital protection

  • Stay updated via real-time dashboards
