Record 800 Electric Locomotives Manufactured by CLW in FY 2025–26
The Impressive TimesChittaranjan: Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) has achieved a historic milestone by manufacturing 800 electric locomotives in the financial year 2025–26, marking the highest-ever annual production in its history.
“Never have 800 electric locomotives been manufactured by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) in a single year. With the thrust towards electrification over Indian Railways, these electric locomotives will not only smoothen rail movement but also lead to substantial savings in fuel costs and reduce carbon footprints,” said Chitrasena Mandala, Public Relations Officer, CLW.
Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Mandala added, “The year 2025–26 has ushered in a new era in electric locomotive production. CLW has achieved an all-time highest production of 800 locomotives.”
The milestone aligns with Indian Railways’ broader vision of complete electrification, improved operational efficiency, and environmentally sustainable transport. Increased deployment of electric locomotives is expected to enhance speed, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and lower overall logistics costs.
Officials noted that this achievement underscores CLW’s manufacturing capability and its crucial role in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure, while contributing to the country’s green mobility goals.
