New Delhi– Union Minister for Railways and Food Processing, Ravneet Singh Bittu, has strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for what he termed an attempt to “malign” Sikhs and subtly brand them as terrorists. This comes after Rahul Gandhi, in an affidavit submitted through his lawyer in a Pune court, named Bittu as someone he allegedly fears could harm him.
Terming the development both “astonishing and disheartening,” Bittu said the allegations reflect a deeply concerning mindset. “Rahul Gandhi’s affidavit implies fear from someone who wears a turban. This, in a very subtle way, targets the Sikh identity,” Bittu said.
The Union Minister, who is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister and martyr Sardar Beant Singh, questioned how he could be seen as a threat. “
I have served the Congress for 15 years, sat in Parliament with Rahul Gandhi both as an MP and now as a Union Minister ” Bittu stated.
He further alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s decision to name him and another Sikh, Marwaha, points towards a deeper bias. “Rahul Gandhi’s long-standing indifference and apparent animosity towards the Sikh community are evident. The Congress party has a history of betraying Sikhs — Operation Blue Star in 1984 remains one of the most painful examples,” Bittu added.
