New Delhi – As part of the fifth-anniversary celebrations of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organizing a special event on August 8, 2025, at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi. The occasion, which coincides with Raksha Bandhan, aims to spread a message of unity, protection, and commitment to a drug-free India.

The event, starting at 9:00 AM, will witness Brahma Kumaris sisters tying rakhis to nearly 400 CRPF jawans and officers, symbolizing a pledge of safeguarding society from the menace of substance abuse. All participants will also take a drug-free pledge, reinforcing their commitment to a healthier, addiction-free life. The programme will be graced by the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, who will oversee the proceedings.

The NMBA, operational across every district in India, was launched with the goal of educating youth and communities about the dangers of substance use. It focuses particularly on schools, universities, and community outreach programs to build a national movement against addiction.

Key Achievements of NMBA So Far:

18.07 crore+ individuals sensitized, including 6.01 crore youth and 4.08 crore women.

Outreach in over 4.84 lakh educational institutions across India.

A dedicated force of 20,000+ trained Master Volunteers working at the grassroots.

1.67 crore+ students from 99,595 institutions have taken the online drug-free pledge.

Deployment of a real-time data collection NMBA mobile app, available on the Google Play Store.

Launch of the official NMBA website nmba.dosje.gov.in, with a dashboard, e-pledge, and discussion forum.

Social media outreach through Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to amplify the campaign’s message.

Strategic partnerships with major spiritual and service organizations including Brahma Kumaris, Art of Living, Sant Nirankari Mission, Ram Chandra Mission, ISKCON, and Gayatri Parivar.

The Ministry describes substance use disorder as a complex issue impacting not just individuals, but families and entire communities. Long-term substance use can lead to serious physical and psychological health risks, including mental illness, heart disease, accidents, and social harm. The government is therefore addressing it through a psycho-social-medical approach, integrating awareness, prevention, and rehabilitation.

With impactful initiatives such as ‘Nashe Se Azaadi’, ‘Naya Bharat, Nasha Mukt Bharat’, and collaborations with organizations like NCC, the Abhiyaan has become a people’s movement. Events like the upcoming Raksha Bandhan celebration are designed not just to mark milestones but to inspire collective resolve to build a healthier, drug-free nation.
