Event to Honour the Bravehearts Who Laid Down Their Lives at Hot Springs in 1959; Nation to Remember the Supreme Sacrifices of Police Personnel

New Delhi, October 19, 2025 — Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will pay homage to the martyrs on Police Commemoration Day at the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. The solemn ceremony will honour the courage and sacrifice of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Police Commemoration Day marks the heroic sacrifice of ten valiant policemen who were ambushed and martyred by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, on October 21, 1959. Since then, the day has been observed annually to pay tribute to all police martyrs across the nation.

In recognition of the invaluable service and supreme sacrifices made by the police forces, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the National Police Memorial to the nation on Police Commemoration Day in 2018. The memorial serves as a symbol of unity, pride, and the indomitable spirit of India’s police personnel.

The Central Sculpture, a 30-foot granite monolith, stands tall as a representation of strength and resilience. The ‘Wall of Valour’, inscribed with the names of all police martyrs since Independence, honours their eternal bravery. The adjoining museum showcases the evolution, history, and contributions of policing in India.

The main ceremony will feature a joint parade by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Delhi Police. Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Members of Parliament with police backgrounds, and senior officers from CAPFs and Central Police Organisations will pay floral tributes to the martyrs.

Apart from the homage ceremony, the Raksha Mantri will address the gathering, reflecting on the sacrifices of the police personnel and emphasizing the continued challenges faced by law enforcement in ensuring national security. The ceremony will conclude with the laying of a wreath at the altar dedicated to the martyrs of Hot Springs.

The event will be telecast live on Doordarshan, webcast through official police portals, and covered by All India Radio and media outlets nationwide.

To extend the spirit of remembrance, Commemorative Events will continue at the National Police Memorial from October 22 to 30, including visits by families of martyrs, band displays, motorcycle rallies, blood donation camps, and creative competitions for children.

Similar remembrance programmes will also be organized by police forces across the country, reaffirming the nation’s gratitude to the men and women who safeguard India with courage, honour, and selfless service.
