President Murmu meets Singapore Deputy PM, Strengthens Bilateral Cooperation

Talks highlight trade, defence, green economy, and people-to-people ties under India’s Act East Policy

New Delhi- President Droupadi Murmu welcomed a high-level ministerial delegation from Singapore, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry H.E. Mr Gan Kim Yong, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The delegation is in New Delhi to participate in the third India–Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR), a key platform for advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

In her remarks, President Murmu expressed satisfaction over the steady growth of India–Singapore relations, even amid global uncertainties. She recalled the State Visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam earlier this year, marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

“Regular high-level exchanges, including the ISMR, provide crucial momentum to our multifaceted partnership,” she said.

The President also commended Singapore for taking a firm stand against terrorism, noting its support following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. She stressed the importance of a united global response to such threats.

Highlighting Singapore’s role as a key partner in India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and Indo-Pacific Vision, President Murmu outlined the depth of bilateral engagement across trade, investment, defence, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges. She noted with appreciation that cooperation has now expanded into emerging domains such as skill development, green economy, and financial technology (FinTech).

India and Singapore share one of the most comprehensive and forward-looking partnerships in the region. The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2015, has grown steadily, supported by robust trade flows, mutual investments, and strong institutional frameworks. Platforms like the ISMR provide an avenue to review progress, identify new opportunities, and address shared challenges.

The latest meeting comes at a time when both nations are seeking greater collaboration in sustainable development, digital economy, and regional security. Experts view Singapore’s strategic location, global financial standing, and innovation-driven economy as natural complements to India’s growth trajectory and strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific.

The visit of Deputy PM Gan Kim Yong and his delegation is expected to further deepen trust, expand economic opportunities, and reinforce the shared commitment to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region.
