Nilambur, Malappuram – Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, George Kurian, inaugurated two major infrastructure projects under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) in Nilambur, Malappuram district, Kerala. The projects include a state-of-the-art Skill Development Centre constructed at a cost of ₹7.92 crore and a modern Girls Hostel built with an investment of ₹9.97 crore.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by local officials, community leaders, and residents, who welcomed the government’s continued efforts to uplift minority communities through targeted developmental schemes. Addressing the gathering, Kurian emphasized the government’s commitment to equitable growth and inclusive development. He stated that these facilities are part of a broader initiative to bridge the gap in infrastructure in minority-concentration areas.
The Skill Development Centre is designed to offer world-class training in various employment-oriented disciplines. It is equipped with modern classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and digital learning tools. The centre aims to train youth in trades and skills that are aligned with industry requirements, thereby improving their employability and livelihood prospects.
Simultaneously, the Girls Hostel provides a secure and supportive residential environment for young women pursuing education and vocational training. With an increasing focus on empowering women through education, the hostel is expected to play a crucial role in reducing dropout rates among female students from economically weaker sections.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. It focuses on the creation of socio-economic infrastructure in backward areas identified based on minority population data. The scheme aims to provide better education, skill development, and healthcare facilities to marginalized sections of society.
These projects in Nilambur are a testament to the government’s dedication to promoting inclusive growth, creating equal opportunities, and ensuring that no community is left behind in the journey of national development.
