London: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an overwhelming and emotional welcome from the Indian diaspora during his ongoing visit to the United Kingdom. The Prime Minister arrived in London on Wednesday as part of the first leg of his two-nation visit, aimed at deepening strategic and trade ties between India and the UK.
Upon arrival, PM Modi was greeted with cheers, slogans, and emotional tributes from members of the Indian community. Supporters from various parts of the UK gathered in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister, many waving the Indian tricolour and carrying placards praising his leadership.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Touched by the warm welcome from the Indian community in the UK. Their affection and passion towards India’s progress is truly heartening.”
The public reception featured countless personal moments as several attendees got the chance to meet and even interact briefly with the Prime Minister. Gehna Gautam, a member of the diaspora, called the experience surreal. “I just met the PM. He walked past us. It was a surreal moment. I got to shake his hand. He is so dynamic. It was an amazing experience,” she said with excitement.
Sanjay, another attendee, expressed his admiration and optimism: “I am very happy to meet PM Modi. He has come here for a very important job. We wish him and Bharat good luck. He is doing a great job.”
Bhavya described his interaction as unforgettable: “The Prime Minister shook my hand and gave me ‘Ashirwad’. It was the best feeling ever,” he said.
Shivani, moved by the moment, remarked: “We shook hands twice and he also blessed me on my head. We are very blessed to have him here. It is an emotional and proud day for all of us.”
Shreya Pareek, who travelled especially for this occasion, added, “I came here to meet PM Modi. I want to congratulate him for Operation Sindoor and for everything he is doing for India. We feel inspired.”
This high-energy reception from the Indian community underscores the strong emotional and cultural ties that bind the diaspora with their homeland. The Indian community in the UK, one of the largest overseas Indian populations globally, has been a crucial bridge in promoting bilateral cooperation between India and the United Kingdom.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to boost India-UK relations significantly, particularly with ongoing talks around a potential Free Trade Agreement. Over the next two days, PM Modi is expected to engage in a series of high-level meetings with UK counterparts and address broader issues related to trade, technology, climate change, and defence.
The Prime Minister’s interaction with the diaspora serves as a reminder of the soft power India enjoys globally, especially through its overseas communities who remain emotionally connected with India’s journey and aspirations.
