New Delhi/Bihar- Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Bihar Rajya Jeevika Nidhi Saakh Sahkari Sangh Limited through video conferencing, a landmark initiative aimed at empowering women in rural Bihar. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister emphasized that empowered women form the foundation of a developed India and remain a top priority of his government.
The Jeevika Nidhi system will provide women associated with Jeevika self-help groups easy access to financial support, helping them expand their businesses and livelihood activities. Entirely digital, the system allows transactions via mobile phones, reducing the need for physical visits and enabling faster, transparent fund transfers. Around 20 lakh women across Bihar are expected to benefit from this initiative, supported by 12,000 community cadres equipped with tablets to facilitate operations.
Highlighting broader government efforts, PM Modi cited programs improving women’s quality of life, including the construction of toilets, PM Awas Yojana houses registered in women’s names, Har Ghar Jal for safe drinking water, Ayushman Bharat healthcare coverage, and schemes like Lakhpati Didi, Drone Didi, and Bank Sakhi that enhance women’s incomes.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Bihar’s cultural reverence for mothers and daughters, linking the launch to festivals like Navratri and Chhath, and stressed that the dignity, respect, and self-worth of women remain a government priority. He noted that the initiative will reduce dependence on microfinance institutions charging high interest, enabling rural women to access larger loans at affordable rates.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, were present at the event. PM Modi encouraged citizens to support “Har Ghar Swadeshi” and promote locally made products as part of a broader vision for women’s empowerment and an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
