Bhuj (Kachchh), Gujarat : In a significant step towards strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure and clean energy ambitions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple transformative projects of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, during a grand event held in Bhuj, Kachchh. The total investment in these projects exceeds ₹1,100 crore.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, local leaders, and stakeholders from the maritime and energy sectors. These initiatives mark a major stride in boosting the operational capacity, sustainability, and economic contribution of one of India’s most strategically important ports.
Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, has been recognised as one of the three major ports designated as a ‘Green Hydrogen Hub’ under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, a flagship initiative aimed at positioning India as a global leader in clean energy production and export. As part of this mission, DPA is playing a pivotal role in advancing clean energy adoption, reducing carbon emissions, and accelerating India’s transition to a green economy.
The newly inaugurated and proposed projects encompass modernisation of cargo handling infrastructure, port connectivity upgrades, environmental sustainability initiatives, and renewable energy integration, among others. These developments are expected to not only enhance port efficiency but also generate employment, attract investment, and catalyse regional economic development.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to building a ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’, with a focus on world-class infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth. He highlighted the critical role of ports like DPA in supporting India’s ambition to become a global economic powerhouse.
The projects inaugurated today reflect the government’s vision of a modern, future-ready India that embraces green technology and ensures holistic regional development.
