Motihari/Durgapur – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar and West Bengal on July 18, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹12,200 crore, focusing on infrastructure, connectivity, energy, and rural empowerment.
In Bihar, key projects worth ₹7,200 crore will be launched at Motihari, where the PM will address a public gathering at 11:30 AM. Among the major announcements is a significant boost to rail infrastructure, including the doubling of Darbhanga–Thalwara and Samastipur–Rambhadrapur rail lines, and the foundation stone for the Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj doubling project worth ₹4,080 crore. A new maintenance facility for Vande Bharat trains will be developed at Patliputra, along with automatic signalling and traction upgrades to improve rail speed and safety.
Adding to regional connectivity, the PM will flag off four new Amrit Bharat trains, enhancing links between Patna, Motihari, Darbhanga, Lucknow, and Delhi. On the road infrastructure front, he will lay the foundation stone for the 4-laning of the Ara Bypass (NH-319) and inaugurate the Parariya to Mohania 4-lane highway, along with the Sarwan to Chakai NH-333C road, connecting Bihar with Jharkhand.
The Digital India initiative will gain momentum with the inauguration of STPI IT Park at Darbhanga and an Incubation Centre in Patna, aimed at strengthening the state’s startup ecosystem. In the fisheries and rural development sector, the PM will launch new projects under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, release ₹400 crore to 61,500 Self-Help Groups under DAY-NRLM, and hand over keys to 12,000 PMAY-Gramin beneficiaries. Additionally, ₹160 crore will be distributed to 40,000 new rural homeowners.
Later in the day, the PM will address another public event at Durgapur, West Bengal at 3 PM, where he will launch projects worth ₹5,000 crore. Key highlights include the BPCL City Gas Distribution project in Bankura and Purulia worth ₹1,950 crore, and the inauguration of the Durgapur–Kolkata natural gas pipeline under the Urja Ganga Project, valued at ₹1,190 crore.
In a major step towards clean energy, PM Modi will dedicate Flue Gas Desulphurization systems at Durgapur and Raghunathpur thermal power stations, worth ₹1,457 crore. The visit will also witness the doubling of the Purulia–Kotshila rail line and the inauguration of two new road overbridges at Topsi and Pandabeshwar under the Setu Bharatam Yojana, improving safety and traffic flow.
This high-impact visit underscores the Prime Minister’s vision for “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”, blending development with cultural legacy, and pushing forward a sustainable, inclusive growth agenda across eastern India.
