Guwahati, April 6, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that the past ten years have been crucial for preserving Assam’s cultural and social identity, and that the upcoming period will focus on elevating the state’s presence on the world stage.
Addressing a public event in Guwahati, the Prime Minister said that efforts made over the past decade have ensured the protection of Assam’s traditions, languages and heritage. He credited these efforts for laying a stable foundation for future development.
“We focused on safeguarding the unique ethos of Assam, and today we are prepared to showcase its strengths to the global community,” he said, emphasising that the state is poised for new opportunities in areas such as tourism, infrastructure and economic growth.
PM Modi pointed to several flagship initiatives that have helped improve connectivity, education and livelihood opportunities in the region. He noted that such progress has not only enhanced quality of life for residents but also positioned Assam as a gateway to opportunities in South East Asia.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of involving youth and local communities in Assam’s development journey, encouraging them to take pride in their heritage while embracing innovation and global collaboration.
He reiterated that inclusive growth and sustainable development will remain key priorities as Assam moves towards a future that balances tradition with modern aspirations.
Officials accompanying the Prime Minister said the government plans to deepen engagement with international partners to attract investments and promote Assam’s cultural and natural assets abroad.
The event underscored the central government’s commitment to Assam’s progress, with leaders emphasising that the next phase will build upon the foundations laid over the past decade.
