New Delhi :Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal addressed the annual convocation of Amity University in Noida today, emphasizing the vital role that universities play in nurturing talent and empowering young minds. He praised Amity University for encouraging bright students to return, recognizing merit, and offering a platform that respects and builds their potential.
Congratulating nearly 29,000 graduating students from both online and on-campus programs, the Minister said the young achievers and awardees are the true focus of the convocation. He commended the university for offering numerous opportunities, fostering innovation, and awarding scholarships that ensure need-blind admissions. Noting that half the student community comprises young women, he highlighted the institution’s inclusive and progressive academic culture. He also acknowledged the contributions of 50 faculty members who are Ramalingam Swami Fellows serving in India after returning from abroad.
Marking Mahaparinirvan Diwas, Shri Goyal paid homage to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and reiterated the constitutional values of equality, social harmony, and opportunity for all. He reminded students that education is the most powerful tool for uplifting underprivileged communities and urged them to fulfil their duties towards society and the nation.
Describing the graduating class as central to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, Shri Goyal said the next 25 years—the Amrit Kaal—will define India’s growth trajectory. He encouraged the students to push the boundaries in their chosen fields and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for one lakh young Indians to consider entering public life and politics. Shri Goyal stressed that India needs committed, principled individuals who can inspire citizens and work with integrity. He encouraged universities to expose students to public administration and politics, even suggesting internships with elected representatives to understand governance firsthand.
Citing the principle “garbage in, garbage out” from his early computer learning, he said Indian politics needs more good people to drive positive transformation. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s belief in India’s “can-do generation,” expressing confidence that today’s youth will build a stronger, more capable India.
The Minister then invoked the PM’s five guiding principles from the 2022 Independence Day address, urging students to adopt these prans to help propel India from a $4 trillion to a $35 trillion economy by 2047:
Resolve for a Developed India – Youth must play a defining role in shaping Viksit Bharat.
Freedom from Colonial Mindset – Breaking mental barriers and embracing Indian identity. He suggested universities consider adopting traditional Indian convocation attire.
Pride in India’s Heritage – Carrying forward the country’s values, diversity and ancient wisdom while embracing modernity.
Unity in Diversity – Collaborating across regions, communities and cultures to strengthen national harmony.
Spirit of Duty – Using education to serve family, society and the nation, and contributing towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
Goyal also acknowledged the dedication of teachers and the sacrifices of parents in shaping the graduates. He encouraged students to stay connected with their alma mater and express gratitude to their mentors.
As the students step into the next phase of their lives, he reminded them that challenges are a natural part of the journey, but expressed confidence that Amity University has equipped them with the skills, values and resilience needed to succeed. He urged them to play an active role in nation-building and contribute to India’s rise as a developed nation.
