Jammu – In a swift response to assist stranded tourists and passengers, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway operated two special rakes today in close coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP) and district administration.
The first special train, 02238 Jammu–Banaras Special, departed from Jammu at 3:45 pm carrying around 1,200–1,400 passengers. Later in the evening, the 04680 Jammu–New Delhi Special also left Jammu at 5:40 pm, accommodating nearly 1,200 passengers.
The initiative was taken after regular train services had to be suspended in the region owing to safety concerns caused by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
Passengers expressed relief and gratitude towards the railways for their prompt action. Many described themselves as “elated” with the proactive approach of the administration in running these trains at short notice.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vivek Kumar and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SrDCM) Uchit Singhal, who coordinated with all departments to ensure smooth departures. Teams from the GRP and RPF played a crucial role in assisting passengers and ensuring their safe boarding.
Stranded passengers thanked the railway administration for the timely arrangements, which brought much-needed relief after being stuck in Jammu due to the havoc caused by torrential rains.
