New Delhi/Noida — In a landmark achievement under the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25, Noida has been declared the cleanest city in India in the Super Swachh League Cities category, a classification for cities with a population between 3 to 10 lakh. The honour was officially conferred during a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, where the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the award to Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister A. K. Sharma, Noida Authority’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Lokesh M, and Additional CEO Sanjay Khatri.
The recognition highlights Noida’s significant progress in urban cleanliness, made possible through the joint efforts of its residents, sanitation workers, and the Noida Authority. CEO Dr. Lokesh M expressed heartfelt congratulations to all citizens and sanitation staff, noting that the achievement is the result of disciplined coordination, community participation, and unwavering commitment to hygiene and civic responsibility.
The city has also been actively involved in discouraging the use of single-use plastic through widespread awareness campaigns based on the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) model. Measures such as mechanical sweeping using advanced machinery, treatment and reuse of wastewater from sewage treatment plants, and floating waste removal from drains using bamboo and bar screens have significantly contributed to the city’s environmental goals.
Dr. Lokesh M, Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, stated, “By successfully meeting all parameters of the Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness Survey), Noida has been awarded the prestigious 5-Star Garbage Free City Certification. Additionally, the Noida Authority has received the Water Plus Certificate under the Open Defecation Free City category.” He added that all officers and staff of the Public Health Department deserve congratulations for this accomplishment.
Celebrations to mark the occasion were held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Sector 18, where CEO Dr. Lokesh M addressed the gathering and praised the contributions of both workers and residents. On this occasion, representatives of the sanitation workforce, including union leader Babloo Parcha, were felicitated for their dedication to maintaining high standards of cleanliness across the city. Dr. Lokesh stated that every department played a role, from conducting anti-polythene drives to streamlining sewer and drainage systems. He also emphasized the success of the door-to-door garbage collection system, which ensured segregation and proper disposal of wet and dry waste. According to him, such systematic efforts have propelled Noida ahead of other cities, including Chandigarh, which ranked second in the same category.
Additional CEO Sanjay Khatri also spoke on the occasion, stating, “This award reflects the discipline, innovation, and tireless dedication of the entire sanitation team. Noida has set an example of what is possible when the administration, citizens, and ground staff work as a cohesive unit. It is now our collective responsibility to maintain and exceed this benchmark in the coming years.”
CEO Dr. Lokesh reiterated that this achievement is not the final goal but a motivation to do even better. He called on every citizen to stay vigilant and conscious about cleanliness to retain the city’s top rank in future surveys. He emphasized that sustaining this success would require continued hard work and cooperation from all stakeholders.
The event was graced by the presence of several key officials from the Noida Authority, including ACEOs Sanjay Khatri and Vandana Tripathi, OSDs Mahendra Prasad and Indu Prakash Singh, General Manager of Public Health S. P. Singh, Senior Managers Gaurav Bansal and R. K. Sharma, General Manager Ashok Kumar Arora, OSD Kranti Shekhar, and Noida Employees Association President Chaudhary Rajkumar, among others.
This latest recognition as India’s top city in the Super Swachh League is a testament to Noida’s sustained commitment to cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and innovative urban sanitation practices. With this honour, Noida sets a high benchmark for other urban centres across the country striving toward a cleaner, greener, and healthier living environment.
