New Delhi, 2 June : PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has said that for the first time, Delhi is witnessing governance without conflicts and blame games. With BJP in power at the Centre, in Delhi Government, and the MCD, coordinated governance is delivering results on the ground. 15 Lakh MT Silt Removed from Drains; Encroachments Being Cleared. Under the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) department, a massive desilting drive has removed over 15 lakh metric tonnes of silt from major drains across the city.
“Encroachments on drains are also being removed to ensure free flow of water during monsoon,” Parvesh Sahib Singh said. To strengthen capacity, 156 new posts have been sanctioned in the department. PWD: Road Resurfacing, Drainage Reform and New Tender Model
The PWD has launched a comprehensive road tender system, starting with Delhi University areas. Key highlights:
•35 packages for drain desilting, each with separate tenders
•35% work completed on stormwater drains
•15 June set as deadline for remaining desilting work
•100 km roads resurfaced
•90% dark spots resolved
•2,500 new streetlights installed
Importantly, arbitration clauses have been removed from new tenders. “This decision comes after our experience with delays and losses in projects like the Barapullah Flyover,” said Parvesh Sahib Singh.
Water: ‘One City, One Number’ and 90% Bill Relief Coming Soon
The Delhi Jal Board is rolling out a new integrated control system –
‘One City, One Control Room, One Number’ – to respond better to water issues. Other key decisions:
•Water distribution to be rationalised based on population in each constituency
•Illegal water tapping identified and curbed
•A major bill waiver scheme is in the works:
“Domestic water bills will be reduced by up to 90%,” announced Parvesh Sahib Singh.
A new sewer master plan is being prepared, for which a global tender will be floated. The billing software is also being upgraded to make the system more transparent. Sewerage for All: 1800 Unauthorized Colonies to Be Covered by 2027. The government has committed that by 2027, all of Delhi’s 1800 unauthorised colonies will have access to sewer lines.
“This is the first time such a comprehensive commitment has been made with a clear deadline,” said Parvesh Sahib Singh. “This is the biggest reform in Delhi governance – no excuses, no delays, only delivery. The results are visible because we are working together, not against each other.”
