New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nitin Nabin officially assumed charge as the party’s new National President on Tuesday, marking a major generational shift in the BJP’s organisational leadership. The oath-taking ceremony took place in the national capital and was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior BJP leaders, chief ministers, national office-bearers, and members of the party’s national executive.
The BJP had earlier announced Nabin as its sole nominee for the top organisational post after the nomination and scrutiny process concluded without any opposing candidates. His unopposed election was formally confirmed by BJP National Returning Officer K. Laxman, who stated that no other nominations remained after withdrawals.
At 45 years of age, Nitin Nabin becomes the youngest National President in BJP’s history, surpassing the previous record held by Nitin Gadkari.
Nabin began his political career through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later rose through the BJP’s youth organisation. He served as National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and was also the BJYM Bihar President from 2016 to 2019.
He is widely credited for playing a key organisational role in the BJP’s Chhattisgarh revival, accurately predicting the party’s 2023 Assembly victory and later contributing to its strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Belonging to the Kayastha community, a numerically smaller social group in Bihar, Nabin’s elevation is seen as a signal that the BJP leadership is prioritising organisational capability, experience, and performance over traditional caste calculations.
Before formally taking charge, Nabin began his day by offering prayers at Jhandewalan Temple and later visited Hanuman Mandir in Connaught Place. BJP headquarters in New Delhi wore a festive look ahead of the ceremony.
Reacting to his appointment, BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra said the decision reflected the party’s commitment to promoting young yet experienced leadership, adding that the BJP would continue to strengthen its organisational structure under Nabin’s guidance.
Notably, Nitin Nabin had already been serving as the party’s Working National President, making his elevation a natural progression within the organisation.
