Lucknow, May 7 , 2024 : Approximately 26.12 percent out of more than 1.89 crore votes were polled on the 10 seats in third phase of Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh in the first two hours of polling till 11 am on Tuesday. According to the office of the Chief Electoral
Officer (CEO) maximum 29.55 percent votes were polled in Sambhal, whereas a minimum 23.6 percent turnout was recorded in
Bareilly. On Mainpuri seat where Dimple Yadav, sitting MP and wife of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, is contesting against Cabinet Minister in the Yogi government Jaiveer Singh 25.13 percent votes were polled till 11 am. Among other seats 26.05 percent votes were polled in Hathras, 25.87 percent in Agra, 25.98 percent in Aonla, 27.63 in Fathepur Sikri, 24.42 percent in Firozabad, 27.17 percent in Etah and 26.02 percent in Badaun. It may be noted that in 2019 general elections 8 out of these 10 seats were won by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), whereas two went in the kitty of the main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP). Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Navdeep Rinwa said the polling which began at 7 am will continue till 6 pm at 20,415 polling stations spread over 12,339 polling centres. “For various reasons 4,390 polling stations have been identified as critical where a close monitoring will be done during the poll process,” he said. The 12 districts where voting is taking place are Moradabad, Sambhal, Hathras, Aligarh, Agra, Etah, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kasganj, Badaun and Bareilly. “More than 1.89 crore electorates, including more than 1.01 crore male and 87.69 lakh females are eligible to decide the fate of 100 candidates, including eight women, in this phase,” he said.
He said that Agra boasts the highest number of voters at 20,72,685, while Etah has the lowest with 17,524 registered voters in their respective Lok Sabha constituencies. “Bareilly tops the list with 13 candidates, whereas Firozabad has the minimum number of seven contestants,” he said. There were reports of boycotts of the poll process at some places, but it was not confirmed by the officials
