New York, July 5 : U.S. President Donald Trump signed his flagship legislative package, the One Big Beautiful Bill, into law during a White House ceremony, aligning the high-profile signing with the nation’s Independence Day celebrations.
The event featured a B-2 bomber flyover and marked the culmination of weeks of intense negotiations and political maneuvering. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives just a day earlier by a razor-thin margin of 218-214, with every Democrat and two Republicans—Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania—voting against it.
The newly enacted law encapsulates key elements of Trump’s second-term agenda, including sweeping tax cuts, increased military and border security spending, and significant reductions in federal funding for healthcare and food assistance programs. Critics argue that while the bill delivers on Republican priorities, it comes at a steep cost, with projections indicating it could add $3.3 trillion to the national debt.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trump praised Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson for securing the bill’s passage. “Those two are a team that is not going to be beat,” he declared. The president had pushed for the bill to be passed before July 4, aiming to align the signing with Independence Day festivities as a symbolic victory.
Despite fierce resistance from Democrats and some within his own party, the White House hailed the legislation as a monumental achievement. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called it “an encapsulation of all of the policies that the president campaigned on and the American people voted on.” She added, “It’s a victorious day for the American people.”
In a statement, the administration emphasized the bill’s significance, calling it “the biggest legislative win of the president’s term” and a “clear reflection of the leadership and resolve shown by Republicans to deliver on their promises.”
As Trump heads into a critical election season, the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill is being framed by the White House as both a political and policy triumph—one that defines the ideological battle lines for the months ahead.
