NEW DELHI, 28 JUNE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of Acharya Vidyanand Ji Maharaj at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, calling it a historic moment in India’s spiritual journey. He remarked that the event is infused with the Acharya’s immortal inspiration, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. Shri Modi extended his greetings and expressed gratitude for being part of the occasion.
Highlighting the significance of June 28, the Prime Minister recalled that on this very day in 1987, Acharya Vidyanand Ji was conferred the title of ‘Acharya’—marking the beginning of a sacred stream of thought, discipline, and compassion in Jain tradition. He called the centenary not just a celebration, but a remembrance of an era and a tribute to a great ascetic.
To commemorate the event, special postage stamps and coins were released. Shri Modi acknowledged Acharya Pragya Sagar Ji’s leadership and humbly accepted the title of ‘Dharm Chakravarti’, dedicating it to Mother India.
Paying rich tribute to Acharya Vidyanand Ji Maharaj, the Prime Minister described him as a ‘visionary of the era’—a scholar, patriot, musician, spiritual leader, and freedom fighter. Born in Karnataka in 1925, the Acharya authored over 150 texts, travelled barefoot across India, and inspired millions through his teachings in languages like Prakrit, Sanskrit, Kannada, and Marathi.
Shri Modi praised Acharya’s pioneering efforts in reviving Prakrit and promoting Jain philosophy through literature, temple restoration, and education. He noted that his life was a synthesis of self-realisation and public service. The PM reaffirmed India’s commitment to preserving spiritual and cultural heritage, including the recent recognition of Prakrit as a classical language.
Drawing from the Acharya’s teachings, Modi reiterated nine national resolutions—from water conservation and natural farming to promoting local products and helping the underprivileged. He emphasised that these ideals resonate with India’s vision for a developed and inclusive future.
The year-long centenary celebrations, jointly organised by the Government of India and Bhagwan Mahaveer Ahimsa Bharti Trust, will honour Acharya Vidyanand Ji Maharaj’s legacy through educational, spiritual, and cultural events across the country.
