New Delhi, 26 June 2025 : Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, today participated in a state-level public awareness programme held at Yamuna Sports Complex on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. On this occasion, she called upon the public to actively participate in a wide-reaching campaign against drug abuse. The event was also attended by Delhi Cabinet Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, Member of Parliament Shri Manoj Tiwari, MLAs Om Prakash Sharma, Sanjay Goel, and Dr. Anil Goel. All dignitaries and attendees, along with the Chief Minister, took a pledge to work as a team to fight the drug abuse.
The Chief Minister said that this day is observed globally to reflect on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. She stated that today’s programme is inspired by the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Delhi Government is wholeheartedly committed to fulfilling this national goal.
She further emphasized that Prime Minister has laid out a national vision to make India drug-free by 2047, and Delhi Government is resolute in carrying out every responsibility towards achieving this goal. She said, “When India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047, we must be able to present it as a healthy, empowered, and drug-free nation.”
In her address, the Chief Minister spoke about two types of “intoxication”—one that destroys the body, family, and society, and another that inspires with positive energy, such as patriotism, social service, and the drive to secure a better future for our children. She praised the Indian armed forces, stating that it is this positive kind of passion that keeps them standing strong in harsh terrains like snow-covered mountains, scorching deserts, and our borders.
She appealed to society to work together to secure a better future for children and to transform the fight against drugs into a people’s movement. Urging citizens to stay alert, she said if anyone notices drug use or sale around them, they must immediately call 1933, a dedicated helpline number that connects directly to senior police officials for swift action.
CM Gupta shared that in just the first four months of 2025, Delhi Police has arrested over 1,100 individuals involved in drug trafficking. FIRs have been filed, large quantities of drugs have been seized, and many addicted individuals have been sent to rehabilitation centers. She emphasized that while the government, police, and civil society are working in tandem, public participation is essential in this mission.
On this occasion, Delhi Cabinet Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh stated, “The Delhi Government is not just running programmes—it is leading a people’s movement against drugs. This fight to protect our youth will reach every street, every neighborhood, and every household. A drug-free India by 2047 is our collective responsibility, and Rekha Government is committed to fulfilling this dream with full force.”
