“Chaudhary Brahm Prakash’s visionary leadership and enduring legacy will continue to inspire future generations “ says Speaker Vijender Gupta

New Delhi, 16 June 2025: Hon’ble Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta today said that “Chaudhary Brahm Prakash’s visionary leadership and enduring legacy will always inspire generations.” While paying floral tributes to Delhi’s First Chief Minister on his 107th birth anniversary at Delhi Legislative Premises earlier today.

Hon’ble Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta led the solemn commemoration, joined by Deputy Speaker Shri Mohan Singh Bisht; Minister of PWD and Legislative Affairs, Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh; Minister of Social Welfare, SC/ST Welfare, Cooperative and Elections, Shri Indraj Singh; Deputy Mayor of MCD, Shri Jai Bhagwan Yadav ; and Chief Whip Shri Abhay Verma. A special photo exhibition showcasing rare and historic moments from the life of Chaudhary Brahm Prakash was also organised on the Assembly premises.

In his address, Hon’ble Speaker Shri Vijender Gupta reflected on Chaudhary Brahm Prakash’s visionary leadership and enduring legacy. He recalled the installation of the leader’s statue on 15 March 1979 by Late Shri Sahib Singh Verma, in the presence of Former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Shri Gupta noted that Shri Verma was deeply inspired by Brahm Prakash Ji, who had been a mentor in his political journey.

Highlighting the lack of formal recognition in recent decades, Shri Gupta observed that despite his immense contributions, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash had not been accorded due honour by successive governments. He proudly noted that at just 32, he became Delhi’s first Chief Minister in 1952 and was later elected to Parliament four times—reflecting his deep connect with the people.

Deputy Speaker Shri Mohan Singh Bisht described him as a revered statesman whose ideals continue to inspire generations. “Such leaders are living legends. It is our duty to preserve their legacies,” he said.

PWD and Legislative Affairs Minister Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh shared how Brahm Prakash Ji had represented Sadar and Outer Delhi in Parliament before aligning with Chaudhary Charan Singh. He fondly remembered his father, Late Shri Sahib Singh Verma, installing a portrait of Brahm Prakash Ji in the Assembly as a tribute in 1979.

Social Welfare Minister Shri Indraj Singh praised the late leader’s lifelong commitment to the upliftment of the marginalised and to social justice—principles that remain deeply relevant today.

Chief Whip Shri Abhay Verma stressed the importance of remembering those who shaped Delhi’s democratic identity. “When such memories begin to fade, it becomes our collective responsibility to revive and preserve them,” he said.
