NEW DELHI, 14 JUNE: The so-called four-engine BJP government’s Heat Action Plan has collapsed under the weight of Delhi’s scorching summer. As the city reels under severe water shortages and endless power cuts, residents are being forced to spend sleepless nights in unbearable heat. Promises to give labourers afternoon relief lie in shambles—an MCD worker has died on duty in the blazing sun. At GTB Hospital, ACs and coolers have been defunct for days. The grand pledges of water ATMs and ORS-shikanji distribution have vanished without a trace. Delhi is gasping—and the government is missing in action.
Sharing a video on X on Saturday, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “In April, the BJP made a big show of its so-called Heat Action Plan. They loudly claimed that Delhiites would get major relief this summer. The plan promised 3,000 cold water ATMs across the city, special cooling arrangements at public places and hospitals, and even spoke of giving labourers relief from work during peak afternoon hours.”
Pointing to the reality exposed in today’s newspapers, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The headlines today reveal the truth behind BJP’s tall promises. Most parts of Delhi are facing a severe water crisis. In several areas, there are power cuts lasting up to 14 hours, forcing people to stay awake through sweltering nights. And the state of the BJP-run Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is even more shameful.”
He shared that on Friday afternoon, a 45-year-old sanitation worker died while working in the extreme heat in Shahdara zone. His colleagues said they were being made to work continuously in these brutal temperatures without any midday respite.
Exposing the dire conditions in Delhi’s hospitals, the senior AAP leader added, “GTB Hospital, one of the main government hospitals in East Delhi under the Delhi government, doesn’t even have basic amenities, let alone the so-called Heat Action Plan. The air conditioners in the hospital have been non-functional for several days. There aren’t even coolers in the wards.”
“Patients are finding it difficult to even lie down on the beds. Many are forced to buy drinking water from outside. This is the reality of BJP’s four-engine Heat Action Plan—there’s distress everywhere. Their plans remain confined to paper. They had promised water ATMs, ORS packets, and shikanji. Let the people of Delhi find out for themselves where these promises have vanished and decide what this government is really doing,” he further added.
Sharing the news of the MCD worker’s death on X, Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote, “A sanitation worker has died on duty. The BJP government is setting new records in falsehood. Their only job is to boast and bluster. What happened to their Heat Action Plan? The one that was supposed to give labourers relief in the afternoon? If workers under the BJP-led MCD are dying from heat, just imagine the condition of the rest of the labour force.”
In another post, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The BJP government claimed in their heat plan that hospitals and public places would be kept cool. But the truth is—there are no working ACs or even coolers in GTB Hospital. The heat is so unbearable that patients are unable to stay in the wards. Even the lifts are not working. And patients are forced to buy drinking water.”
