Delhi Boosts Healthcare Access: 3.45 Lakh Health Cards Issued, 30+ Ayushman Mandirs to Launch This Month

New Delhi, 11 June : Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the able guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Smt. Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is transforming healthcare delivery to make it more accessible, affordable, and inclusive.

In a major step towards strengthening citizen-centric healthcare, Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh today informed that a total of 3,45,140 health cards have been issued under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana (VVY) till date. Of these, 1,66,841 cards have been distributed exclusively under the VVY scheme—a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at ensuring dignified and secure aging for Delhi’s senior citizens.

The Vay Vandana Yojana scheme has garnered an enthusiastic response from the elderly. Card creation statistics reveal 1,24,215 self-registrations, 11,284 by BIS operators, and 42,176 through CSCs, marking the success of the government’s seamless and inclusive registration approach.

Dr. Singh said, “The prompt issuance of over 3.45 lakh cards is a testament to the Delhi Government’s efficient implementation and the people’s trust in our healthcare initiatives. We are committed to upholding the dignity and well-being of every senior citizen in the capital.”

As part of the government’s expanded healthcare infrastructure, 85 hospitals have been empanelled under the schemes—60 private and 25 government-run facilities, allowing beneficiaries to access quality care across both sectors. These cards offer up to Rs 10 lakh in cashless hospitalization benefits, not just within Delhi but also across empanelled hospitals nationwide.

The Delhi Government is also aggressively working towards the creation of Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs. Envisioned under the Ayushman Bharat Mission led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, these centres will serve as modern primary health hubs offering essential services at the grassroots level. The construction of 1,139 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs across Delhi is in full swing. The plan is to equip each of Delhi’s 70 assembly constituencies with Aarogya Mandirs, bringing healthcare closer to the people.

Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh further informed “This very month, over 30 new Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs will be dedicated to the people of Delhi. The aim is to ensure that every Assembly constituency has multiple such centres equipped with medical staff, diagnostic tools, and essential medicines to provide free, reliable, and prompt care.”

Every Delhi resident above 70 years, possessing an Aadhaar card, is eligible for registration under Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana. The registration process is simple and online, and the scheme covers treatment expenses in all empanelled hospitals. With this initiative, the Delhi government is steadfastly advancing its vision of ‘Swasth Delhi, Sashakt Delhi,’ ensuring that every citizen, especially the elderly and underprivileged, receives the best healthcare.
