Delhi’s Free Water ATM Drive Gains Momentum: Parvesh Sahib Singh Inaugurates New Unit at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya

NEW DELHI, 11 JUNE: As part of the Heat Action Plan 2025, Delhi’s PWD and Water Minister Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh today inaugurated a new “निःशुल्क शुद्ध जल सेवा” (Free Water ATM) at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Daryaganj, marking another important step in the city’s free water ATM drive. This facility is set to provide free, clean, and chilled drinking water to hundreds of students and local residents every day.

Speaking at the event, Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh announced the government’s ambitious target of installing over a thousand water ATMs across schools and key public locations by next year, aiming to serve 8 to 10 lakh people daily.

Emphasizing the larger vision behind the initiative, Shri Singh remarked, “This is not just about water; it’s about dignity to life, health, and public service.” The initiative directly addresses heat-related challenges while ensuring that essential civic services are accessible to all, especially daily wage workers, students, and passersby who often lack access to clean drinking water in public areas. The water ATMs are equipped with advanced filtration systems, temperature control features, and are designed for high usage during peak summer months. They are also energy-efficient and require minimal maintenance.

Today’s inauguration is part of a broader and ongoing campaign led by Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh, under which Water ATMs have already been installed at key locations including Kashmere Gate ISBT—ensuring relief for long-distance travellers; Shalimar Bagh—covering schools and nearby markets; and the Delhi Secretariat—supporting hundreds of government staff and daily visitors. These installations have received widespread appreciation from the public and local communities for their convenience and life-saving utility during extreme heat conditions.

Concluding the event, Shri Parvesh Sahib Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of Delhi’s citizens, stating, “No one in Delhi should go thirsty, especially in the harsh summer. Our government is committed to building a hydration-secure, heat-resilient capital. This is just the beginning.”
