India, Norway Deepen Ties on Blue Economy and Ocean Governance at UNOC3

Nice, France,  June 11– Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh met with Norway’s Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy, Marianne Sivertsen Ness, on the sidelines of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) to discuss expanding cooperation on sustainable fisheries and marine resource management.

The high-level meeting focused on joint strategies to tackle critical challenges such as overfishing, marine pollution, and sustainable use of ocean resources. Both countries emphasized the importance of strengthening their long-standing partnership, especially in the context of the growing blue economy and shared ocean priorities.

During the delegation-level talks, India and Norway reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative ocean governance, aligning their efforts with the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). Key areas of focus included knowledge exchange, improved data sharing, capacity building, and technology transfer to support marine sustainability.

The Ministers also discussed opportunities to expand existing initiatives between the two nations, particularly in fisheries innovation and ocean health monitoring. This reflects a broader vision of creating an inclusive and resilient blue economy that benefits both nations, especially coastal communities.

The UNOC3, being held in Nice from June 9–13, has convened global stakeholders to drive solutions for ocean conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development.

India’s active participation, led by Dr. Singh, highlights the country’s dedication to ocean diplomacy and its role in shaping global maritime policy. The India-Norway engagement is seen as a meaningful contribution to the global efforts for the sustainable future of the world’s oceans.
