Spain, 03 June: On the final day of their five-nation, 12-day visit, the All-Party Parliamentary Delegation, led by Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, concluded its engagements in Spain with a series of productive meetings involving Spanish government officials and representatives from civil society.
The delegation visited the Asociación de Victimas del Terrorismo (Association for Victims of Terrorism) an organisation which supports over 4800 victims of terrorism and reaffirmed India’s unwavering determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms. The delegation also emphasized India’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at promoting a principled, consistent and coordinated global response to terrorism.
In engagements with members of Senate Foreign Affairs Committee led by Vice President Mr. Antonio Gutiérrez Limones, the delegation stressed that as the world’s fourth-largest economy, India is committed to peaceful development and constructive global engagement; however, persistent violations of its sovereignty pose significant threats to both regional and global stability. They reiterated that India will not succumb to nuclear coercion nor permit rogue actors to undermine its national security or developmental objectives.
In a call on with His Excellency Mr. José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, the delegation provided a comprehensive overview of India’s approach to countering terrorism. They emphasized the urgent need for stronger international collaboration to combat terrorism in all its forms and called upon the global community to unite in a coordinated and concerted effort. They also highlighted the necessity for credible international mechanisms to deny terrorists safe havens, financing and political support. H.E. Mr. Albares conveyed his understanding and the unequivocal support of Spain for India’s efforts to combat terrorism, and reaffirmed the importance of global peace. He emphasized that terrorism will never prevail and that Spain stood with India in this issue.
The delegation engaged in dialogue with intellectuals, think tanks and representatives from civil society at a discussion hosted by the Spain-India Council Foundation, where they articulated India’s staunch resolve to combat terrorism and commitment to peace. This positions were acknowledged with understanding and support by the Foundation’s members and discussed strategies to combat terrorism.
The delegation concluded its visit having effectively communicated India’s strategic approach and firm message of zero tolerance toward terrorism to Spanish government leaders, lawmakers, civil society and the Indian diaspora, strengthening bilateral ties and mutual understanding.
